Shopify B2B in 2026: Catalogs, Companies and Limits for SMEs

Direct answer: in 2026 Shopify makes many B2B features available on Basic, Shopify/Grow and Advanced plans too. Companies, locations, catalogs, volume pricing, net payment terms, self-service orders and Shopify Flow can therefore be part of a standard B2B project, but availability and limits must be verified feature by feature on the plan actually being used.
What is Shopify B2B?
Shopify B2B is the set of native features merchants can use to manage business customers, locations, catalogs and commercial conditions within the Shopify ecosystem. The advantage is avoiding an automatic second store or external app for every wholesale requirement when the platform already provides the needed feature.
Which features are available on standard plans?
Current Shopify documentation indicates that most B2B functionality is available on Basic, Grow/Shopify and Advanced. Key examples include:
- companies and company locations;
- B2B catalogs;
- volume pricing and quantity rules in supported contexts;
- net payment terms;
- self-service ordering;
- automation through Shopify Flow.
I do not treat this list as immutable: before including a feature in a project I check current Shopify documentation and the actual active plan.
B2B catalogs: a limit to design around first
As of September 3, 2026, Shopify indicates a limit of 3 active catalogs across B2B markets for Basic, Grow/Shopify and Advanced. This matters if products and prices need to be segmented across customer groups or markets.
The structure should therefore be designed before creating dozens of commercial segments: determine which differences genuinely require a separate catalog and which can be managed through the available data model and features.
Companies and locations
The model separates a company from its locations. This lets merchants organize contacts and commercial conditions in a way that is more suitable for wholesale than treating every business customer as a normal retail account.
Prices, quantities and commercial conditions
Catalogs and quantity rules can configure different conditions for specific B2B contexts. Before launch I verify which catalog is applied to the customer, how prices are displayed and what happens when products or conditions change.
An apparently simple setup can become ambiguous when the same customer fits multiple commercial structures, which is why the data model comes before page design.
Payment terms and self-service orders
Net payment terms and self-service orders are native features in the contexts documented by Shopify. Enabling them does not automatically define a company credit policy: credit conditions, approvals and administrative processes must be defined by the merchant.
B2B and Shopify Markets
Standard-plan B2B features are connected to the newer Shopify Markets model. Markets, catalogs, languages and business customers should therefore be designed as parts of the same architecture, especially for international selling.
When is a Shopify app needed?
Native features cover many cases. An app becomes useful when the project needs logic the platform does not provide, a connection to an ERP or CRM, proprietary synchronization or an interface that requires dedicated data and backend logic.
I first check whether a reliable Shopify App Store solution exists. If the requirement is specific enough to justify dedicated software, I can design and develop a custom Shopify app, keeping application logic and data separate from the theme.
One store for B2C and B2B?
In many projects B2C and B2B can coexist in the same ecosystem, but I do not present this as a universal “full unification”. Catalogs, content, checkout, markets and integrations need to be verified for the actual case and plan.
How I design a Shopify B2B project
- map business customers and commercial segments;
- define products, catalogs and pricing rules;
- verify plan limits;
- configure companies, locations and required permissions;
- define payment terms and operational flows;
- assess Shopify Flow, apps and integrations;
- test prices, access and orders with real cases before go-live.
My B2B scope
I am Francesco Guiducci, a freelance Shopify expert and Shopify app developer. I work on Basic, Shopify/Grow and Advanced and configure the B2B features genuinely available within that scope.
When a feature is unavailable or requires external software, I state it before development and assess the simplest alternative architecture: native configuration, an existing app or custom development.
