Shopify Bundles on Basic, Grow and Advanced: Features and Limits

Direct answer: Shopify Bundles is Shopify's free first-party app for creating fixed bundles and multipacks. It is available on all Shopify plans, including Basic, Grow and Advanced. It should not be presented as a universal solution for every bundle model: it has specific limits around components, variants, inventory and sales channels.
What you can create with Shopify Bundles
The Shopify Bundles app combines existing products into fixed bundles or multipacks of the same product. The bundle product is managed in Shopify Admin and the order lists component SKUs at the individual-item level.
The Shopify Bundles app does not support mix-and-match bundles. If customers need to build a package by choosing interchangeable products, I verify a compatible third-party bundle app or a different architecture rather than pretending the free app supports that use case.
Documented limits
As of September 3, 2026, Shopify documents up to 30 components for fixed bundles, a maximum of 3 options and 100 variants in total per bundle. Bundles cannot contain other bundles, and Shopify Bundles does not support bundle import, export or bulk editing.
These limits can change, so I check the current documentation before designing a complex catalog.
Inventory
Bundle availability is derived from the availability of its components. The component with the lowest effective available quantity determines how many complete bundles can be sold. Shopify also documents that bundle inventory is not tracked by individual location in the same way as standalone product inventory; overall component stock is used for bundle availability.
This is important for multi-location stores: I do not promise location-specific bundle availability without testing the real workflow.
Pricing
The bundle product price is managed separately. If a component price changes, the bundle price does not update automatically, so it needs to be checked and updated where necessary.
Shipping
Bundles do not have their own shipping profile. Shipping rates are calculated using the profiles of the individual products in the bundle and weight is derived from the components. I therefore test checkout with representative orders before considering the setup complete.
Performance and commercial impact
The fact that Shopify Bundles is a first-party app does not justify promises of “zero latency”, a specific Core Web Vital or an automatic increase in average order value. Bundles can be commercially useful, but the effect depends on offer, pricing, catalog and presentation.
When I use Shopify Bundles
I recommend it when fixed bundles or multipacks match the requirement and the documented limits fit the catalog. If the project needs configurators, mix-and-match or more complex logic, I evaluate alternatives instead of forcing the native app.
My scope
I’m Francesco Guiducci, a freelance Shopify specialist and Shopify app developer. I work on Basic, Grow and Advanced stores and choose between native features, theme work and apps based on the actual requirement.
